Course Overview

Power Awareness ensures telecommunications workers meet industry safety requirements through the development and application of safe work practices for the installation and maintenance of above- and below-ground telecommunications cabling.

The Power Awareness Refresher course is designed for participants to review and reinforce existing knowledge and skills required to work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus. The course is suitable for individuals who have previously completed the Initial Power Awareness course within the past 12 months and require refresher training to maintain currency.

Participants must provide evidence of prior competency, including a copy of their current or previous Power Awareness Statement of Attainment or certificate issued within the last 12 months, prior to course commencement.

Upon successful completion of all assessment requirements, participants will be issued a Statement of Attainment in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and a certificate of completion for non accredited units

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
– Identify electrical hazards
– Apply relevant WHS/OHS legislation
– Assess risks and implement control measures
– Demonstrate safe work practices
– Recognise electricity supply structures and components
– Respond appropriately to electrical incidents or emergencies

Entry Requirements

  • The course is suitable for individuals who have previously completed the Initial Power Awareness course within the past 12 months and require refresher training to maintain currency.
  • Students must provide a copy of their current (not expired) previous power awareness statement of attainment (Note only units stated on previous certificate will be issued upon completion)
  • The following units were superseded and are not equivalent UETDRMP006 Perform Pole Top Rescue supersedes UETDRRF003 / UETDRMP010 Provide first aid in an ESI environment supersedes UETDRRF007 / ICTWHS205 Work safely near power infrastructure at a telecommunications workplace supersedes ICTWHS203 so if a student has done the old units they cannot do the new units as a refresher course
