Nationally Recognised Training
Optical fibres are about the diameter of a strand of human hair and when bundled into a fiber-optic cable, they’re capable of transmitting more data over longer distances and faster than other mediums. It is this technology that provides homes and businesses with fiber-optic internet, phone, and TV services.
Our Optical Fibre course is designed for participants to achieve the required requirements to install, test and terminate optical fibre cable on customer premises for communications applications using a range of terminations that may include direct termination, fusion splicing, and mechanical splicing.
It applies to technical staff who place, secure, and terminate optical fibre cable in new installations and upgrade or maintain existing networks in domestic, commercial, and industrial installations. Communications applications include digital and analog, telephony, data, video, digital broadcasting, computer networks, local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and multimedia.
Licensing, legislative, regulatory, and certification requirements apply to telecommunications systems. All customer cabling work in the telecommunications, fire, security, and data industries must be performed by a registered cabler. All cablers are required to register with an Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) accredited registrar.
On successful completion, the student will obtain a statement of attainment
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
– fully understand how light is propagated and how it is transmitted via optical fiber cable
– describe the light sources used for optical fiber transmission
– understand the various types of fiber and when each is used
– understand the construction of optical fiber cable
– be conversant with the various types of jointing and termination methods involving fiber optic cables
– identify the different types of fibers available
– Fusion splice a pigtail to cable fiber
– install the various types of connectors on optical fiber cable
– install and test single mode and multimode cable
– perform direct field termination
– test a splice and interpret the results on OTDR Fiber tester
– utilise the various types of splicing and test equipment
– demonstrate all safety requirements required when working with optical fiber
– understand the different components used in a simple fiber network
