Coax, short for coaxial, is a type of cable used to transmit data, the internet, video, and voice communications.
A coax cable is made up of an aluminum and copper shield with an outer plastic jacket (see below) with the dielectric insulator helping to minimize signal loss. The term coaxial refers to the inner conductor and the outer shield sharing a geometric axis.
Our Coaxial Cabling course covers and is designed to allow participants to achieve the required skills and knowledge, in a real-time customer environment, to competently install‚ terminate, and test coaxial cabling, on domestic or commercial premises on such communications application works, inclusive, but not limited to:
– digital and analog
– telephony
– data and video
– digital broadcasting
– computer networks
– local area networks (LAN)
– wide area networks (WAN)
– multimedia
The course applies to technical staff who install and terminate coaxial cable for new installations, upgrades, or the maintenance of existing networks in domestic, commercial, and industrial installations on a client’s premises.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
– identify the various types of coaxial cabling system
– describe the construction of coaxial cable
– identify and list the component parts of coaxial cable
– terminate coaxial connectors correctly
– test the terminated coaxial cable safely and accurately
– identify and correctly use coaxial termination tools
On successful completion of the course and assessment requirements, participants will be issued a Statement of Attainment in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
